Education and Training
Education and training lie at the heart of our work. We aim to empower records professionals to play a key role in managing their governments’ records as evidence to support national development, government services to citizens, citizens’ rights, and the preservation of the national historical memory. We are also committed to building greater awareness and understanding among government stakeholders of the significance of records for governance. Our educational activities are informed by our ongoing cycle of research, education and training, and consultancy services. All of our Education and Training material can be downloaded free of charge.
Our two substantial initiatives in this area, The Management of Public Sector Records Study (MPSR) programme and the Training in Electronic Records Management (TERM) programme, have been prepared with the aim of supporting countries where professional educational tools in the field of records and information management are hard to obtain. Educators are free to use this material to develop new courses, supplement existing courses or develop new teaching materials.
The MPSR Programme covers all phases of the records lifecycle, or continuum of records management, as well as the application of these principles and practices to financial, human resource and hospital and court records. The programme comprises about 4000 pages of training material, including 18 teaching/study training modules, case studies, good practice manuals and associated educational materials. While the materials address public sector record-keeping issues, they also are useful for records management in the private sector.
The TERM Programme covers the key concepts involved in managing electronic records. It comprises five hundred pages of training material, including five training modules, a volume of Additional Resources for Electronic Records Management, a Glossary and a set of Good Practice Indicators for Integrating Records Management in ICT Systems. There also are six case studies.
We plan to continue developing and expanding our education and training programme, particularly in response of the challenges of managing records as technology changes. We do not offer accredited courses, but we can be commissioned to develop and deliver special courses or to arrange study tours in the UK or elsewhere.
