International Records Management Trust

Education and Training

The Trust is committed to empowering records professionals to play a key role in managing the records of their governments as the evidence-base for government services to citizens, national development, citizens’ rights and the national historical memory.  These activities lie at the heart of the Trust’s ongoing cycle of research, education and training, and the application of its products and findings. All of the Education and Training material that the Trust has developed can be downloaded free of charge.

This material, the Management of Public Sector Records Study Programme, was prepared in cooperation with the International Council on Archives with the aim of supporting countries where educational tools are hard to obtain. Educators are free to use the material to develop new courses, supplement existing courses or develop new teaching materials.   The programme covers all phases of the records lifecycle, or continuum, as well as the application of these principles and practices to financial, human resource and legal and judicial records.  There are about 4000 pages of training materials, including teaching/study training modules, case studies, good practice manuals and associated educational materials.  While the materials address public sector record-keeping issues, they also are useful for records management in the private sector.

Additional material now is being developed through the Building Integrity in Public Sector Information Systems Project and will be available on the website as soon as it is ready.  The longer term aim is to revise, upgrade and extend the Management of Public Sector Records Study Programme to take account of the changing electronic environment.

The Trust does not offer accredited courses, but it can be commissioned to develop and deliver special courses or to arrange study tours in the UK or elsewhere.
